Everyone is excited for the LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL, who isn’t? From 15 to 23 of September London becomes a design capital full of opportunities and iconic events. London Design Festival was conceived by Sir John Sorrell and Ben Evans in 2003. Building on London’s existing design activity, their concept was to create an annual event that would promote the city’s creativity, drawing in the country’s greatest thinkers, practitioners, retailers, and educators to a deliver an unmissable celebration of design.
In 2017, the Festival welcomed a record-breaking 450,000 individual visitors from over 75 countries. The thing is: What’s going to happen this year?

DESIGN DESTINATIONS: TRADE SHOWS

London Design Festival stages five major trade shows, known as Design Destinations. These are the key meeting places for designers, manufacturers, buyers, specifiers, the media and design enthusiasts to discover new product releases and identify current trends.
Design Destinations are spread across the city. In the east, the London Design Fair remains at the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane in east London, while across the river designjunction has relocated to Oxo Tower Wharf. To the west, 100% Design enjoys its fourth year in the exhibition halls of Olympia London and Focus/18 again stages its events at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour. Finally, further to the west, Decorex International continues in the magnificent setting of Syon Park.

1# - DECOREX INTERNATIONAL 2018



DECOREX INTERNATIONAL is one of the UK’s leading design shows and the only one of its kind in the UK for the luxury interiors market. With more than 400 exhibitors, from leading names to emerging talents, it attracts nearly 14,000 visitors from across the globe. The show’s theme, blank canvas, explores how an empty space can celebrate a new beginning, a chance to create something beautiful in the way that Decorex and its exhibitors do each year.

HIGHLIGHTS

BLANK CANVAS ENTRANCEWAY
This year the show floor has been reimagined as a blank canvas to give leading interior design the space it deserves to flourish, so expect an entirely new and nuanced creative direction. Four acclaimed interior designers: MADDUX CREATIVE, BRIAN WOULFE, HENRY PRIDEAUX and STUDIO SUSS will answer the question: What path did you take to reach where you are today?

THE BAR
Lambart & Browne, the team behind Loulou’s at 5 Hertford Street, Bagatelle on Dover Street, London, and numerous residential projects around the world, will design the bar at Decorex 2018.
The starting point for the design was the expression “bon viveur”, derived from the French phrase, “bon vivant”. Lambart & Browne will evoke this mood at Decorex with an elegant, refined, colonial-style bar.
Inside the bar, visitors will enjoy a space adorned with decorative screens and luxurious furniture. An elegant lighting features are set to provide impactful focal points. Lambart & Browne’s design will include recognizable pieces from a number of the show’s exhibitors, contributing to a lavish yet comfortable experience.

100% DESIGN is synonymous with the biggest names in design and is a leading platform for launching some of the world’s most renowned brands. This year, as part of a refreshed programme, THOMAS HEATHERWICK and MARCEL WANDERS talk with 100% design. The show will also present new features, fresh design talents and emerging names alongside a roster of industry favorite’s, big name brands and innovators.
A stellar line-up of exhibitors include: Benchmark, Established & Sons, Dare Studio, Arper, B Sweden, Bulo, Antonio Lupi, Tesla, Riko with Starck, OnePlusEleven, Rubn, Casa Botelho, Missana and more!
In this edition, 100% Design announces big changes as it adopts a renewed vision
highlighting its dedication to innovation and emerging talent.

This special tradeshow brings together more than 400 international design brands as well as a range of innovative projects from the likes of Tesla and Riko by Starck. The highly coveted Talks with 100% Design will return for 2018, featuring keynote sessions by industry heavyweights, panel discussions, trend forecasts and more. At the heart of the newly formed West Kensington Design District, 100% Design is the destination for architects and designers to source the latest products, discover new interior design trends and emerging brands.

100% Futures is a new exhibition showcasing cutting-edge design and innovations based on the future of city living.
Spearheaded by MAX FRASER, 100% Futures is a new feature at this year's 100% Design that shines a light on the most cutting-edge designs and innovations under the theme ‘designing for cities’. Covering travel, technology, well-being, public spaces and sustainability the exhibition will showcase ideas around the future of city-living and the best of design for improving urban environments across the world.

FOCUS/18 at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is universally recognized as a primary destination for creative excellence, bringing together thousands of taste makers from the worlds of interior design, architecture, and style.
Focus/18 returns with a packed programme for 2018. Get the inside track from the most talented names in the industry at talks, demonstrations, workshops and discovery tours; Meet established makers, emerging innovators and skilled artisans; Listen to star names sharing their knowledge at the conversations in design series; and connect with influencers and taste makers from 120 showrooms and more than 600 international brands.

4# - LONDON DESIGN FAIR



Launched in 2007, the LONDON DESIGN FAIR has earned itself the reputation as the go-to trade show during the annual London Design Festival, hosting the single largest collection of international exhibitions, designers, brands, country pavilions, features and galleries throughout. Located in the creative heart of east London, the LONDON DESIGN FAIR is a four-day industry event that brings together 550 exhibitors from 36 countries, and each year, over 28,000 influential retail buyers, producers, architects, designers, interior designers, press and design-savvy public, attend to see the very latest in furniture, lighting, textiles, materials and conceptual installations, from around the world.

- Material of the Year: PLASTIC, BEYOND THE CHIPPER: is an exhibition showcasing four designers who are engaging with the material head on, challenging the damaging single-use culture with refined and valuable outcomes.
- The epic return: SWEDISH DESIGN PAVILION: This year’s Pavilion will include 13 designers and companies from southern Sweden in a purpose-built modular structure, designed by KARIN SUNDBERG.

5# - designjunction



Launched in 2011 by a team of industry experts, designjunction connects the world’s most renowned design brands with some of the world’s leading architects, interior designers, specifiers and buyers.
Award-winning event designjunction transports to the cultural hub of London’s South Bank and will showcase more than 200 of the world’s most iconic design brands. The show is presented across three unmissable areas which are owned and managed by coin street community builders; the Doon Street site, OXO Tower Wharf and Riverside Walkway.

- INSTALLATIONS: GATEWAY TO INCLUSION - On one of the jetties overlooking the Thames, the city of Saint-Étienne will showcase the ‘Gateway to Inclusion’, an installation conceived by LISA WHITE, Head of Lifestyle and Interiors at WGSN, in collaboration with designer FRANÇOIS DUMAS. A structure made of steel and ribbon, the project aims to promote inclusion in design.
- INSTALLATIONS: HEAD ABOVE WATER - Head Above Water by STEUART PADWICK is a 9-metre high, interactive sculpture of a head, which will appear on Queen's Stone jetty making a dramatic change to the London skyline.
- FOOD & DRINKS: BETHAN GRAY X THE GLENLIVET BAR - On the ground floor of the Doon Street Site, award-winning British designer BETHAN GRAY has teamed up with whisky experts The Glenlivet to create an experiential celebration of craft in the form of a bar serving a specially created menu of food and cocktails.
- FOOD & DRINKS: ELLE DECORATION COFFEE SHOP - This year, ELLE Decoration will be hosting the designjunction coffee shop, which will be decorated with quietly beautiful furniture from Danish design brand FRAMA with food served on stylish tableware from Japanese lifestyle store Kinto.
