With no better way to start the new year, Ferreira de Sá was once again present at one of the many prestigious events that Paris hosts. From January 17-21st, Maison et Objet 2020 was the place to showcase trends and new projects that will shape the world of Interior Design.
This year, our stand focused on innovation. The new rugs displayed at Maison et Objet featured several technological elements that reflect Ferreira de Sá’s constant innovation.
One example of this innovation is seen on the Avant-Gardiste rug.
Avant-Gardiste comes as the second carpet of the “LightForRugs” project that was published in this year's edition of Maison et Objet. These light rugs bring innovative and pioneering technology to Ferreira de Sá, by varying the intensity, visual effect and color in their filaments.
The integration of sensory and lighting systems generates unique light effects that will revolutionize the way of interacting with a rug.
Through touch it is possible to choose the color, intensity and visual effects of the rug whenever you want. This project is the culmination of a lot of research and investment on the part of Ferreira de Sá in order to create unique pieces.
The first carpet of this project, Almond Blossoms, already had a success at Decorex 2019 and now Avant-Gardiste promises to raise the bar even more. “LightForRugs” is another project included in the innovative vision by Ferreira de Sá and a proof that everything is possible to develop without limits when there is creativity.
In order to respond to the advancement of technology, this challenge was accomplished through I&D in new materials, such as light conductors, LEDs, electroluminescent devices, functional films, touch sensors and electronic devices.
With the knowledge and help from CeNTI (Centre of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials), Ferreira de Sá Rugs hopes to develop new materials and processes for the integration of electronic systems, which lead to the continuous improvement of this project.
New sustainable yarns
Our desire to create new products is infinite but we know that the planet’s resources are scarce and suffering from our high consumption. Based on this concern, we decided to adopt a strategy that allows us to continue creating new products of excellence while minimizing our environmental impact.
This way, our new sustainable yarns were developed using reused materials:
PET Fiber and Regenerated Nylon
Obtained from recycled water bottles, PET fiber is the most environmentally friendly packaging material available in the market. While adding value to a product, this fiber is a non-toxic polyester, free from harmful chemicals and with fireproof treatment.
The new Regenerated Nylon comes from waste, such as ocean and aquaculture fishing nets as well as remains of fabrics and carpets destined for landfills.
It is an infinitely renewable material, exactly like virgin Nylon, that allows the creation of new products without using new raw materials.
These new threads are in line with our values of environmental consciousness, in which we are committed to using environmentally friendly raw materials and non-polluting chemicals. Our vision for the future considers both the innovation that we are known for and social responsibility matters.
